VectorVest ProTrader Technical Searches

Key Reversals
If you're looking for aggressive short-term buys, Key Reversals will find stocks that first gap down unfilled, then the next day gap up, also unfilled. When this happens, the selling pressure has been relieved and the stock is poised to move quickly to the upside.

  Channel Breakout
The Channel Breakout search finds stocks breaking out of narrow price channel either to the upside or downside. This search is very useful for detecting a change in trading activity, often signaling the beginning of a new trend.

Moving Average Crossover
The Moving Average Crossover search finds stocks whose short-term moving price average has crossed a longer-term moving price average. VectorVest ProTrader assigns a strength indicator which shows the strength of the Crossover; the higher the strength, the stronger the crossover.

Expansion Breakout
The Expansion Breakout search finds both stocks to Buy and Sell by looking for stocks hitting new Highs and Lows over a specified time period, respectively. The search then filters out these stocks to those that have a current Trading Range for the day that is greater than the average Range for the selected time period. Combined, these two indications often are shown by stocks that are going to continue move up or down.

  Range Breakout
This search will find stocks exhibiting greater volatility in either an upward direction (which you would want to buy), or a downward direction (which you would want to sell short). This volatility is indicated by current highs or lows higher or lower than the previous day minus a percentage of the stock's Range for the previous day.

  Explosive Breakout
The Explosive Breakout tool is designed to find stocks that are reaching a new near-term high, combined with increasing Relative Timing, Volume and strong fundamentals. These stocks have a better than average chance of breaking upwards for as much as a 10% move very quickly

  Relative Moving Average
Not to be confused with the Moving Average Crossover, the Relative Moving Average is the Ratio of the short-term moving average / longer-term moving average. It is used to track moving average convergence and divergence. This tool calculates the RMA of the stocks that you run it on. Using these RMA's, you would make a trading decision for the next day either to Buy or Sell.

  Gap Finder
A stock's price "gaps" when its opening price is either greater than the previous day's high or less than the previous day's low. In general, such behavior is indicative of greater than normal interest and activity in the stock, often leading to the stock's price following through in the direction of the gap. This tool finds stocks that are matching this stringent criteria.

  Exhaustive Reversal
The Exhaustive Reversal search identifies stocks at the end of a recent trend. The buying or selling pressure has run out (or "exhausted" itself) and the price is ready to turn in the opposite direction

  Lizard Tail
This reversal indicator search is called the Lizard Tail, named for its appearance on an Open-High-Low-Close chart. The tail is usually a volatile trading day with a sizable trading range, indicating a change in the short-term price trend.
